Completed Research Projects, Externally Funded

(2011-12). Learning from Counter Radicalisation and De-Radicalisation Programs of Unites Nations Member States, a research project funded by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. 

(2011). Globalisation, Security and Terrorism in Muslim Majority States, a project funded by the Norwegian government (September 1, 2011-September 1, 2012).

(2010). A conference on How to Counter Threat of Terrorism: Internet, Prisons, Education, Biological & Chemical, & Role of United Nations, Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University. (Chair and Organiser of the conference). The Government of Saudi Arabia funded the conference completely. 

(2010). Conference on Globalisation and Radicalisation in the Muslim World, a conference funded by the Norwegian government and was held in march in the Arab Thought Forum, Amman-Jordan under the patronage of HRH Prince Hassan of Jordan, March. (Main organiser and chair of the conference).

(2009). Learning from Deradicalisation Programs of Muslim States, a research project funded by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry in coordination with the United Nations. The project seeks to analyse de-radicalisation programs implemented in eight Muslim states with the final aim of providing policy implications for United Nations Member States who face global terrorism threat but lack effective programs to counter the phenomenon of terrorism.

(2008). Globalisation and Security Issues, a project carried out for the United Nations which resulted in the ‘First Report of the Working Group on Radicalisation and Extremism that Lead to Terrorism: Inventory of State Programs’. The report was then distributed to all United Nations Member States as an official UN document (2008). The Government of the United States of America funded the project completely.

(2008). International Conference on Globalisation, Economic Reforms, Aid and Democracy in the Arab World, jointly organised with the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Arab Thought Forum (ATF), held at Arab Thought Forum in Amman 03-04 February 2008, and presided over by HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal. Co-funding from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the British Council for Research in the Levant (The main organiser and chair of the conference).

(2007). Aid and Power in the Middle East and North Africa, a project funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Conducted in co-operation with Professor Jane Harrigan of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) (2004-2008).

(2007). Economic Liberalisation, Social Capital and Political Islam, a project funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Conducted in co-operation with Professor Jane Harrigan of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) (2004-2008).

(2007). Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement, a project funded by Oxfam America, HQ Washington DC (2006).

(2003). Project on Jordan: The Dilemma of Reform in a Rentier Economy, funded by the British Academy (2002-2003).
