Bio

Hamed K. El-Said, PhD – Chair and Professor of International of Political Economy and International Business, who is currently acting as a senior advisor and a consultant  on issues related to Money Laundry, Terrorism and terrorism financing. 

    From 1990-92, Professor El-Said served as an economic and political researcher at the Centre for Strategic Studies of the Royal Scientific Society (Amman-Jordan), then the research arm of HRH Crown Prince Hassan ben Talal of Jordan.

      Between 2007-9, he served as senior advisor to the United Nations al-Qaeda and Taliban Monitoring Team and, in 2008, he headed the research team of the United Nations Counter Implementation Task Force’s Working Group on Addressing Radicalisation and Extremism that Lead to Terrorism. Professor El-Said was also responsible for authoring the 1st United Nations Report on Inventory of Counter Radicalisation and Deradicalisation Programs in the World in 2008  (http://www.un.org/terrorism/pdfs/radicalization.pdf).

      Between January 2014 and December 2019, Professor El-Said acted as the most senior advisor to the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism, formerly known as the United Nations Implementation Task Force (UNCTITF).    Between 1998 and 2019, Professor El-Said simultaneously acted as a lecturer, senior lecturer, Reader, and a Professor of International Political Economy and Professor of International Business at the Manchester Metropolitan University. In January 2019, he moved to the Middle East where is is currently acting as a senior advisor on issues related to Money Laundry, Terrorism, International Sanctions Regime, and Terrorism Financing. 

   Professor El-Said published extensively on various issues. He is best known for his work on two areas. First is terrorism in general and radicalisation, deradicalisation and counter radicalization programs and measures in particular. Second, Professor El-Said is also known for his extensive work and publications on economic and political reforms in the Arab World, with particular emphasis on the social, political and economic impact of IMF/World Bank-promoted Stabilisation and Structural Adjustment Programmes. His research profile and interests also included work on New Institutional Economics, Social Capital and Network Theories. 

       His latest books include: New Approaches to Countering Terrorism (2015); ‘Globalisation, Democratisation and Radicalisation in the Arab World’ (With Jane Harrigan, 2011), ‘Deradicalising Violent Extremists: Learning from Counter Radicalisation and De-radicalisation programmes of Muslim-Majority States’ (Routledge, 2013), and New Approaches in Fighting Terrorism: Designing and Evaluating Counter Radicalisation and Deradicalisation Programs.
